Still Image Analysis (Lighting)

This is an image from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ of a character called Bane who is the villain. Bane, is wearing a mask covering most of his face, and is wearing a military vest with his arms holding on as if he is waiting for something. The character is also looking straight ahead. In this image there is low key lighting, this is because the use of low key lighting shows that the character is a villain as there are strong contrasts between the dark background and the light shining on him. The key light is directed from the top which is called top lighting. This lighting angle shows his importance and makes the character seem as if he is more powerful, also, due to the light coming from the top, the characters eyes are dark. This also shows that he is the bad person. The top light has lit the characters fists, this shows that the villain is about to fight somebody.
